While working as a writing consultant at the Writing Center on the Washington State University Vancouver campus, I provided academic support to students across disciplines, both in-person and through the Online Writing Lab. I excelled at offering a "global approach" to essay critique that addressed student writing on a conceptual and evidence-based level rather than simply granulating the grammar and formatting. Additional topics for which I provided consultation include research integration, citation and format, assignment comprehension, study strategies, and resume/cover letter development. I collaborated with a diverse range of students to address their individual needs, fostering their confidence and skill development. Additionally, I managed center operations by organizing paperwork, ensuring study resources were readily available, and maintaining a friendly and inviting atmosphere for students and consultants alike.
Beyond my core consulting duties, I contributed to the Writing Center’s outreach efforts as a creative and enthusiastic ambassador. I designed promotional flyers for campus-wide distribution and represented the Writing Center at various campus events, raising awareness of our services and encouraging them to take advantage of the support we offered. This combination of academic consulting and promotional work allowed me to sharpen my skills at communication, design, and collaboration while cultivating a welcoming and inclusive learning environment for everyone at the Center.
